About the Release:

One, released in 1989 as a single from Metallica’s landmark fourth studio album, ...And Justice for All, marked a defining moment in the band’s career. It was the first Metallica song to feature a music video—an emotionally charged visual narrative drawn from the film Johnny Got His Gun, which helped propel the band into mainstream recognition.

“One” remains one of Metallica’s most powerful tracks, blending melody and thrash with haunting lyrical content centered around the horrors of war. It showcases the technical prowess of the band and became a staple in live performances.

This single also represents a transitional era in Metallica history: the beginning of Jason Newsted’s tenure as bassist following the death of Cliff Burton. Newsted became an integral part of the band’s evolution in the late '80s and early '90s, and signed pieces from this lineup remain highly sought after.
