From the Steve Grad Autograph Collection – a Beckett certified 8x10 color photograph of John Cho as Hikaru Sulu in J.J. Abrams’ 2009 reboot of Star Trek. Signed in bold black ink, this autograph was personally obtained by Steve Grad in person at the Hollywood premiere of the film in 2009.
About John Cho & His Role:
John Cho stepped into the role of Hikaru Sulu, originally played by George Takei, in the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek films beginning in 2009.
His portrayal honored the spirit of Takei’s character while bringing new intensity and modern depth to the role.
Sulu’s standout action sequence in the 2009 film – piloting the Enterprise and engaging in combat with his fencing skills – quickly cemented Cho’s place in the franchise.
John Cho’s Career:
Beyond Star Trek, Cho has enjoyed a diverse and successful career, including leading roles in the Harold & Kumar films, Searching, Columbus, and Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop.
He is widely recognized as a trailblazer for Asian American representation in Hollywood, with a fan base that spans multiple genres.
Collector’s Notes:
This piece represents a premiere-signed autograph, directly tied to the launch of the Kelvin Timeline films. Early signed Sulu photos remain scarce compared to convention signatures, making this an especially desirable example.
