• John E. Blaha (Commander) – U.S. Air Force colonel, veteran astronaut, later served as NASA’s Director of Operations at Star City, Russia.

• Michael A. Baker (Pilot) – U.S. Navy captain and veteran of four shuttle flights.

• Shannon W. Lucid (Mission Specialist) – Biochemist, one of NASA’s most respected astronauts, logged over 223 days in space, including a record-setting stay aboard the Russian Mir Space Station.

• G. David Low (Mission Specialist) – Veteran of three shuttle missions. (Deceased, died 2008 at age 52).

• James C. Adamson (Mission Specialist) – U.S. Army colonel, engineer, veteran of two shuttle flights.

Mission Importance:

• STS-43 flew on Atlantis from August 2–11, 1991.

• Deployed the fifth Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-E), strengthening NASA’s communications network.
